Atabey coffee

For ‘Atabey Coffee,’ it all started a few years ago on a night of ‘creating because I need to create’ (artists and musicians will understand this feeling) with a doodle in Procreate.

It all started with some random sketches one night. (circa 2021)

Two years later (after that night), I found myself drinking Starbucks coffee, looked at the logo on the cup, and thought: ‘This mermaid originated in Washington, what would it be like if we transformed it into something ‘of our own and Puerto Rican’?’

I remembered an older doodle of the Taíno goddess, Atabey, that I had done one night and refined it.

To make it real, I used my Adobe Photoshop skills to modify an original image (from Starbucks) and voilá: the first creative branding project for Binet Media Group’s portfolio.

Many were disappointed to find out it wasn’t a real cup. Due to the demand from several people, I thought about presenting the idea to Starbucks Puerto Rico for a special campaign in honor of Puerto Rican identity. The opportunity for it has not yet arisen, but I hope it will at some point.
